Pouvoir (poo vwah) -to be able to, can, may

Je peux (zhuh poo) -I can, I may

tu peux (too poo) -You can (talking to  friend or family member)

il peut, elle peut (eel poo, ell poo) -he can, she can

nous pouvons (noo poo vahn) - we can

vous pouvez (voo poo vay) -you can (talking to someone you don't know well)

ils peuvent (eel poove) they can (talking about an all male or mixed male & female group)

elles peuvent (ell poove) they can (talking about an all female group)

examples:

il peut le faire (eel poo leh fehr) -He can do it

Puis-je vous poser une question (pwee zhuh voo poh zhay oon kess tee yohn) -Can I ask you a question?

je ne peux pas sortir ce soir (zhuh neh poo pah sohr teer) -I can't go out tonight

je n'y peux rien (zhuh nee poo rien) There's nothing I can do about it

pourriez-vous m'aider? (pohr ree ay voo may day) -can you help me?
