Beginning & Ending Letters

The following are the most common ways of beginning a letter:


Cher Arthur (shehr Ahr thurr) -Dear Arthur
Cher amis (shehr ah mee) -Dear Friends
Chère Anne, cher Eric (shehr Ahn, shehr Eh reek) -Dear Anne & Eric


The use of mon, ma, mes (mohn, mah , may) -"my" at the start of the greeting indicates a closer relationship with the person you are writing to:


Mon cher Sylvain (mohn shehr seel vayn) -My dear/dearest Sylvain
Mon chéri, ma chéri (mohn sheh ree, mah sheh ree) -Dearest


Ways of ending a letter:


Bien affectueusement (bee ehn ah fehk tooz mahn) - Best wishes
Je t'embrasse (zhuh tehm brahce) -Love
Bisous (bee soo) kisses
Grosses Bises (grohce beez) -Lots of love
