"lire" -to read


Je lis (zhuh lee) -I read, I am reading
tu lis (too lee) -You read, you are reading (when speaking to a friend or family member)
il lit (eel lee) -He is reading
elle lit (ell lee) -She is reading
nous lisons (noo lee zohn) -we read, we are reading
vous lisez (voo lee zay) -you read, you are reading (when speaking to someone you don't know well
ils lisent (eel leez) -they read, they are reading (when speaking of an all male or mixed male & female group)
elles lisent (ell leez) -they read, they are reading ((when speaking of an all female group)


Je lis un livre (zhuh lee) I am reading a book
Elle lit le journal (ell lee leh zhoor nahl) -She is reading the newspaper.
Tu lis la carte? (too lee lah kahrt) -Are you reading the map?
